Patara Beach is in the Kaş district of Antalya. It is located approximately 18 km from the center of Kalkan town. With a length of 12 km, Patara Beach is the longest and most spectacular beach in the region. The beach has fine sand, and the sea is shallow and occasionally wavy. Patara is suitable for windsurfing since it is in a constantly windy area.
You can enter Patara Beach from Patara Ancient City, which was the Lycian Union’s capital for a period. The beach is home to Loggerhead sea turtles. It is forbidden to enter here except the specified hours. The entrance to Kaş Patara Beach is via a 200-meter long wooden road. After this wooden road, warm golden yellow beach and deep blue Patara Beach await you. Patara attracts attention with its fine sandy structure.
Named as Patar in the Hittite language and Pttara in the Lycian language, the region has become one of the important centers of the Mediterranean with its port and coastline.
Patara is a paradise for surfing enthusiasts. Various competitions and organizations are also held on the beach, which hosts surf lovers from many parts of the world. Besides, the beach, which is among the places where the Loggerhead sea turtles lay eggs, is under protection. Since the region is exceptionally windy, barriers were built on the coast to prevent the sand particles and dust on the beach from damaging the ancient city of Patara. Patara’s sea is quite shallow. You can relieve your pain by doing sand cure on the sand here.
Patara was essential for trade before its beach was filled with sand. It was one of the three important grain stores (Granarium) in the Mediterranean in the ancient world. The ancient city, which increased its importance during the Roman Empire, also became the capital of the Lycia-Pamphilya provinces at that time.
Patara Beach, known as one of the most beautiful beaches not only in Turkey but also in the whole world, is a hidden paradise. This beach, where you can enjoy the sea with its white beaches resembling the Maldives, will make your holiday unforgettable. On this long beach, natural dunes are waiting for you to watch the view and take unique photos. The dunes concentrated in the middle of the beach add a unique flavor to Patara. Especially at sunset, you will witness a view over the dunes you cannot see anywhere else.
